So, Kayli and Kody decided to create a blog about their lives in California. They'll be sharing all the good times and hard times along with the fun times. ENJOY!!!
Over the past few months I have been going on the first weekend of the month to the Channel Islands ANG Base for drill. The first month was kinda boring. I had to do all of my in-processing stuff. However, we get to watch some football on sundays haha. The second month that I went, we went to Los Alamitos Army Base in Orange County. That was a fun day. On saturday while we were at the base, we went into there shooting simulator. It's basically a fullsize video game. However, the guns we were shooting were the actual guns. Not real bullets but hooked up to air. I was able to shoot the M16 and M4. It was pretty intense to see what our ground troops go through on an everyday basis. That simulator was very realistic and is one way our troops train before they are sent to war. On Sunday of drill we went to the Navy Base, PT Mugu. There, we did our PT (physical training). We had to do as many pushups and situps as we could in a minute. I didnt do to bad. Got 40's on both but my goal is to get 60 on each before BMT (Basic Military Training). Then we had to run the mile and a half. We were told a good time is anything under 13 minutes and I ran it in 12 min 39 sec. Not to bad for not running in a really long time.
I have changed what job I am going to be doing. I am now going to be a crew chief on the C130. Basically, I will know a little bit of everything on the aircraft and will be in charge of the avionics specialist and loadmasters etc....I will also be flying in the aircraft whenever it is in the air. It's a good way for me to be a brown noser with the pilots. :) Also, I get my name painted on the side of the aircraft! It doesnt get much better than that haha.
Sorry for not updating the blog very often.....i mean never haha.Well, today I joined the United States Air National Guard. I will be stationed at the Channel Islands AFB in California. I am going to be working on integrated avionics systems, and will specialize in instrument and flight controls. I do not know my exact date of shipping out to basic training but right now we are shooting for January. I will be at Lackland AFB in Texas for 8 1/2 weeks. Then I will go to my tech school, on is at Keesler AFB in Mississippi for 14 weeks and 1 day. Then I will go to Sheppard AFB in Texas for about 16 weeks. Here are a couple picture of me swearing in. Enjoy
Well, Kayli and I are starting to get active. We are sick and tired of sitting on our butts and thought.....lets play tennis!!! So she and I went to Target and bought two fifteen dollar rackets and some tennis balls and we have been going to the tennis courts 2-3 times per week. Its a great way to exercise and enjoy the wonderful summer weather here in California.
Kayli and I got the opportunity to drive up to Arizona for the 4th of July this year. We went to Lake Roosevelt with my parents. Kayli didnt get to do to much because in dance she hurt her hip and it is still bothering her. I believe she got a pinched nerve. However, my dad and I got some good times in wakeboarding and skiing. Brandon also drove up for a day and spent time with us. He's good on the wakeboard and he even got on the ski. It was pretty cool doubling up on the wakeboards together. That was my first time doing it. It was sure fun!!! Thanks mom and dad!!! ~Kody
So on Monday we went to the DMV to get our drivers licenses'. The wait was not bad at all. In order to get the license we had to take a written test that we definitely didnt really study for. We had a total of 36 questions and were allowed to miss 6. I was getting a little nervous when the lady was counting the ones I missed because I missed 5. haha. Kayli likes to rub in that she didnt miss one. haha. Her brothers also went to get the licenses' and both passed. But because of wonderful California State Law they are not allowed to drive a vehicle with anybody under the age of 20 in the car with them. They were given a provisional drivers license because the state says that anybody under 18 has to have one for a year before they are allowed to drive people. However, her brothers have already had their licenses' for a year next month. But, because they had an Arizona license and not a California license, they have to have the provisional license. Which means, they are being punished for having and AZ license and moving here. Tom and Lisa are trying to argue this one. They are saying they had their license for a year under AZ law and they should not be punished in CA for that. It's like the state is saying you never drove before and your basically starting over like a 16 year old would. So once they are 18, next year, they can drive people. I have gotten applications from many different stores such as, Express for Men, Pac Sun, Tilly's, Dick's, TMobile, and 24 hour Fitness. I will call back on them shortly and hope that one of them works out. It will be nice because minimum wage is $8 here. Gas prices haven't gotten too bad yet. Last time we filled up it was $2.97. Not to bad. Diesel is only at $2.85 which is weird to see again. Diesel cheaper than gasoline. On Sunday, Kayli and her family had to take me to the Chili Cook-Off in Simi Valley. They use to go all the time when they lived here and wanted to show me what it was. Honestly, the chili wasn't that good. Some people make some funky things. The best part was the car show. There was everything any man could ever dream of owning. My three favorite cars was a 1968 Dodge Charger, 1969 Dodge Challenger, and a Chevy Elcamino. I want them all. haha ~Kody
